The Overlooked System Behind My Strongest Digital Product Launch
Twice a year I start recruiting affiliates for the Internet Marketing Newsletter launch, and it always begins the same way. I open a spreadsheet, message people on Messenger, WhatsApp, LinkedIn and email, and then brace myself for a quiet first week before anything moves.
It isn’t glamorous and it isn’t luck. It’s a system I built deliberately, much like the digital product business many of you selling PLR or licensed material are trying to build. Whether you’ve realised it yet or not, the same principle applies to you.
Between the launch period and the ongoing $47 a month subscriptions, that one product brings in around $100,000 a year. That figure reflects one specific, established product built up over time, not a guarantee of what any individual launch or business will produce. Not because it’s unusually brilliant, but because it sits inside a proper system.
There are swipe emails, banners, a JV page, and a leaderboard with a prize pool. Six to eight weeks of relationship-building happen before a single sale. Most people trying to sell a digital product online skip straight past the system and wonder why nothing sticks.
I hear I just don’t have the time constantly. It usually comes from people who’ve bought a PLR pack or a licensed product and never quite got it working. What they usually mean is they don’t have a system, because a system is precisely what buys you the time back later.
Why One Product Never Pays Off
If you’ve ever uploaded a single ebook or template somewhere and waited for money to appear, you’ll know the quiet disappointment when it doesn’t. That isn’t a sign your product is bad. It’s a sign one product was never going to carry a business on its own.
Sellers with a dozen or more related products consistently outperform sellers with one, by a wide margin. Not because quantity beats quality, but because every extra product is another door someone can walk through to find you. A checklist leads to a template, a template leads to a guide, and a guide leads to the next thing you build.
This is exactly what we do inside the launch. Nobody buys the newsletter cold. They see a swipe email, then a banner, then a review, then the leaderboard, then the countdown. Several doors, one destination.
The Difference Between a File and a Catalogue
A file sitting on a hard drive is not an asset. It becomes one when it’s part of something bigger: a related set of products that support each other and are priced sensibly. It’s backed by people who know what they’re getting.
A system is precisely what buys you the time back later.
I say this to affiliates and students often enough that I probably sound like a broken record. Taking a PLR pack as-is and hoping it sells is not a strategy. Rebrand it, connect it to something else you offer, and give people a reason to trust the next thing you release.
Think of it as building a small shelf of related items rather than a single item standing alone, each one making the next slightly easier to sell.
What Really Earns the Sale
Before any launch begins, we’ve already spent weeks building relationships with the affiliates who’ll promote it. Trust isn’t something you switch on the day you want a sale. It’s built beforehand, in other articles I’ve shared recently and in every ordinary interaction that happens long before someone’s ready to buy.
The same is true for reviews and social proof on your own product pages. A product with no reviews at all gets treated with suspicion, however good it is. A handful of honest reviews, even mixed ones, does more to earn a sale than another paragraph of features ever will.
Ask your first ten buyers directly. They matter more than the next hundred.
I manage a fair amount of our own list and CRM work through eShowcase. That’s where we run landing pages, capture leads and automate the follow-up emails that keep a launch moving once someone’s shown interest. It isn’t the flashy part of the business, but it’s the part that holds everything together.
Pricing Is a Filter, Not Just a Number
I’ve watched enough refund requests come through over the years to notice a pattern. The cheapest products often generate the most complaints, not the fewest, because price shapes who buys in the first place. Someone who spends properly on something has usually already decided the problem is worth solving.
Someone shopping purely on price is often still deciding whether the problem exists at all.
That doesn’t mean low-priced digital products have no place. A modest checklist or template can be the handshake that introduces someone to your work. It just shouldn’t be expected to carry the whole business on its own.
Building the System Behind the Launch
Every year, the busiest days of our launch are always day one and the final day. That’s driven by scarcity and a bit of friendly competition among affiliates chasing the leaderboard. That pattern didn’t happen by accident.
It’s the result of the same groundwork: relationships built early, a clear structure, and enough related material that everyone involved has something worth promoting.
If you’re sitting on one PLR product and wondering why it hasn’t earned back what you paid for it, the honest answer is probably simple. It was never going to, on its own. The good news is that the fix isn’t a bigger idea.
It’s building the second product, then the third, and treating your list like the actual asset it is rather than an afterthought to the sale.
If you want a fuller walk-through of how a proper information publishing business is put together, from the first product to the ongoing income, Six Figures A Year In Information Publishing covers the ground. I’ve only touched on it here. It’s the kind of thing worth reading before you build your third product rather than after.
None of this needs to happen overnight. It rarely does, in my experience. But it does need to happen deliberately, one product and one relationship at a time, or it doesn’t happen at all.
Best wishes for now,
Kate
